About the Walk

This Peak District walk is considered one of the best ridge walks in the UK, and the best way to take in the stunning views over Edale, Hope Valley and even the edge of Kinder Scout. Standing at 517 meters, Mam Tor is a hill in the high peak area of Derbyshire, near Castleton. Mam Tor means ‘Mother Hill,’ and her summit is encircled by a hill fort, dating back to sometime between the late bronze age and  early iron age!

This is a 6 ½ mile walk which will start in Castleton (meet at the main car park). Our route will take us along some of the best, most stunning parts of the Peak District. Landmarks will include but aren’t limited to Treak Cliff and Blue John Cavern, which are two of the most-loved attractions in the area. The views from the top of Mam Tor have become iconic in Peak District landscape photography, so get ready to capture some ‘wow’ inducing shots.

Meeting Place & Time

Meet at 9am, at Mam Tor National Trust Car Park, Hope Valley S33 8WA.

Fundraising Target & Fees

A mere £10 gets you registered for the event, and there is a minimum fundraising target of £50. However we do encourage participants set their own target, above this minimum, to support cancer patients at Shaukat Khanum. The closing date for registration is the 3rd of January 2025.
