Meet Our Patients: Aqib Ullah
Aqib Ullah is just three years old. When he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) his family was devastated. But with Aqib now undergoing the best treatment available at our Lahore hospital, they have renewed hope. Here is his story.
When Aqib was admitted to a local hospital in KPK, he was initially diagnosed with malaria and dengue. But further investigations revealed a devastating fact: Aqib was battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), a serious form of cancer.
Aqib’s family hail from Bara Tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province (KPK). His father, Ihsan Ullah, is a teacher with a modest salary. So when Aqib’s diagnosis came as a shock it also came with added concerns over the cost of medical treatment. How would they afford cancer care on the limited income of a teacher? Willing to do everything he could, Ihsan Ullah brought his son to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore, on October 2022.
Our doctors conducted a thorough screening to confirm the initial diagnosis and promptly initiated a comprehensive treatment plan – a plan that would last at least three years. Aqib’s family was relieved and grateful to learn that his treatment costs would be covered by our Financial Assistance Programme. Aqib’s uncle has selflessly volunteered to accompany him throughout the journey.
The road ahead is undoubtedly challenging, but Aqib and his family are hopeful and remain united in their pursuit of Aqib’s recovery. Despite the complex treatment, Aqib always has a smile on his face. The love and prayers he receives from his family remind us of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of unity during tough times. Aqib’s family teaches us that when we unite, we can overcome any challenge.
