Meet our Supporters: Memoona and Nicky

‘Words don’t do it justice! A phenomenal experience and adventure indeed.’

IKCA’s Pakistan Challenge 2022 is likely to be remembered as one of the most challenging outdoor events we’ve ever pulled off, for more reasons than one. Coinciding with the worst floods in Pakistan’s history, it meant lots of last-minute itinerary changes. But our die-hard participants took every curve ball that this trek threw at them in their stride. Two months after their return, with ample time to recover, we caught up with Memoona and Nighat Shah – AKA Nikky.

Memoona and Nikky, a very big thank you from all of us at IKCA and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospitals for your participation in the challenge. How do you feel about it?

Memoona: “Joining IKCA for the Pakistan trek has been such a rewarding experience.”

Nikky: “Agreed! This was fulfilment of the soul and Alhumdulilah, we managed to complete all 3 base camps – Nanga Parbat, Rakaposhi and Diran.

Memoona: “Yeah, we won’t forget this in a hurry. From visiting the most breath-taking locations in Pakistan, to meeting the kindest group of people and being able to witness the high standard of treatment patients at Shaukat Khanum Hospital receive, no matter what their background or status.”

Thank you for making the time to visit the hospital as well. Our staff were grateful for your engagement with our patients. Is it safe to say it was one of the highlights of your trip?

Memoona: “Definitely. My visit to Shaukat Khanum Hospital has made me confident in knowing that all donations are used towards building high-quality facilities, and to delivering the excellent care and treatment all patients receive.”

Nikky: “IKCA lived up to and beyond our expectations. What a worthy cause to fundraise for too.”

How did you find the challenge? Was it difficult?

Nikky: “It was a humbling experience and the team made it all the more worthwhile. It’s the company of people that makes the experience.”

Memoona: “It was wonderful and challenging! There were times during the trip when I would struggle to trek at such high altitudes.”

Yes, the high altitudes can affect even the most seasoned climbers. How did you cope?

Memooma: “Having such a supportive team and knowing that my sponsors have donated towards such a great cause kept me going and helped me reach my goal.”

You really outdid yourselves. We’re extremely grateful for the funds and awareness you helped raise about the work we do. Any last words?

Memoona: “Joining IKCA has been such a blessing as I get to be part of such a rewarding cause. I look forward to continue working closely with IKCA in future.”

Nikky: “Words don’t do it justice! A phenomenal experience and an adventure indeed. Thank you to IKCA and I pray Allah (SWT) rewards it all, Ameen.”

A big thank you to Memoona, Nikky and all of our Pakistan 2022 Challenge participants. May you be rewarded for your efforts and contribution.
