Meet Our Supporters: Nadia Sethi

‘IKCA is doing amazing work to provide free healthcare to cancer patients in Pakistan, so this was a fantastic cause for me to support.’ – Nadia Sethi

Nadia Sethi from Huddersfield is an amazing woman with an incredible story. When she does something, she gives it her all. She signed up for all three of our 3PC (Three Peaks Challenge), even though she was unsure of being able to complete them because of her health issues. We’re happy to report that she completed Scafell Pike last month and is already looking forward to the next two. We caught up with her to find out more.

Well done, Nadia. We know the Scafell Pike trek was a personal achievement on so many levels. Tell us about it.

“It was an amazing hike and for me personally it was a huge goal that I achieved. This time last year, I was morbidly obese. I had a blue badge and was on 40+ tablets and morphine patches. I could barely walk a few steps without being in agony. I have Alhamdulillah lost over 5 stone since 25th July last year and am still on my journey. I no longer take any medication, Alhamdulillah. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

“I was unsure when signing up for Scafell Pike whether my fitness levels would be enough. Shafiq Bhai was so encouraging and supportive, that I ended up signing up for all 3 national peaks. I am still supporting IKCA and will be on the Snowdon and Ben Nevis hikes too Insha’Allah 🤲🏼.”

It’s really impressive that you challenged yourself like that. What motivated you?

“Allah has blessed me in so many ways, so it was my time to give back… I started hiking in January and discovered IKCA around that time when they were doing their Bolton Abbey Walk. But it was too short notice for me to attend.”

So, you signed up for our 3PC. Why did you choose to support us?

“I work as a Care Coordinator for the NHS and carry out Cancer Care Reviews as part of my role. I have seen how much the NHS does for people with cancer in the UK, and it has highlighted the importance of good healthcare. IKCA is doing amazing work to provide free healthcare to cancer patients in Pakistan, so this was a fantastic cause for me to support.”

You mentioned how preparing for the challenges has not only motivated you, but others too. Tell us more.

“In preparation for the challenges I’ve signed up to for IKCA, I have been hiking on a regular basis with various groups and met many like-minded people on the hikes. Alhamdulillah, around 15 people from my new “hiking family” also signed up to raise funds for IKCA.

“Brother Shafiq and the team have helped with any issues or hurdles we’ve needed assistance with, and I can’t wait to see the team again at the next challenge, Insha’Allah.”

What are your plans going forward?

“Once my challenges are out of the way, I intend to continue supporting IKCA and look forward to volunteering with the team Insha’Allah.”

You go, girl! Your commitment to yourself, the NHS patients you work with and our patients all the way in Pakistan, is truly inspiring. Not only have you committed to becoming a lifelong Imran Khan Cancer Appeal volunteer, but in this short time, you’ve already gotten others to join you too! Thank you. We wish you well on your journey to good health.
