Meet Our Supporters: Rubina Khan
‘Imran Khan himself is the source of our inspiration. He has endlessly encouraged us … to continue giving back to communities in need.’
Meet the amazing Rubina Khan, who is no stranger to all of us at Imran Khan Cancer Appeal. She’s been a supporter for several years; as an individual and as part of the Pak UK Fusion Society. She graciously gave us even more time from her busy schedule for an interview.
Thank you for meeting with us, Rubina. Please can you introduce yourself to our readers?
“My name is Rubina Khan and I am in my 50s. I am a mother of 4 and a grandmother to 6 beautiful grandchildren. I live in Birmingham with my family and my interests include charity work, both local and international. I also enjoy making homemade crafts and DIY projects.”
Gosh, you really are a busy woman, doing good wherever you can. Tell us a little about your charity work.
“Some of the charities I have supported through organising events include McMillans, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and several other local and Pakistani charities – all to help support the most vulnerable communities.”
That’s wonderful. And you never seem to get tired or stop! You’ve recently hosted a coffee morning, raising £1,500. Thank you! But you’ve participated, organised and hosted many more events. Tell us about these, please.
“I organised a fundraiser for Shaukat Khanum in 2022 at the Mughal e Azam Restaurant in Birmingham which was attended by over 250 people. We raised around £22,000, in collaboration with UKCAB and Feedo Needo.
“We also organised a coffee morning fundraiser for Shaukat Khanum in June 2022 which raised nearly £3,000 with 150 guests attending. Then, in February 2023, we organised another fundraising dinner at the Belfry Hotel in Birmingham where we successfully raised £100,000. This was also in collaboration with UKCAB and Feedo Needo.”
Awesome. You obviously have a passion for getting involved and helping others. Is this something you would recommend?
“I would absolutely recommend fundraising activities to all who can participate. IKCA is supported by communities from all over the world who recognise this hospital as one of the most successful – operated on charity funds. Imran Khan himself is the source of our inspiration. He has endlessly encouraged us to take part in these activities, and to continue giving back to the communities in need.”
Please accept a BIG thank you from our patients. Do you have a message for them?
“Yes! I want all the patients to know that they have our unconditional support. We only ask that they keep us in their prayers. I would also like to reassure them that they are in good hands as the Shaukat Khanum staff, doctors and other people I have met have always had the best intentions for patients.”
We’ll definitely pass that on. But tell us, what’s next on the agenda for Rubina and Pak UK Fusion Society?
“We will continue to actively take part in future fundraising to support IKCA through Pak UK Fusion Society. Pak UK Fusion is led by women with a passion for supporting local communities and those who need it the most.”
We are ever so grateful for your continued commitment to support our life-saving work. May Allah (SWT) reward you for your efforts, Ameen.
Rubina Khan is one of thousands of supporters who raise funds for and awareness about our work in fighting cancer in Pakistan. Without our supporters, everything we do would grind to a halt.
