Meet Sultan Asi. On 21 May 2023, Sultan participated in the Great Manchester Run to raise funds for Imran Khan Cancer Appeal. We were thrilled he chose our charity as his cause. We chatted to him about his motivation to enter the run and his experience.

We’re excited to hear all about your participation in the Great Manchester Run, but first, can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into running.

“I am Sultan Asi, age 58 and a fashion designer. I live in Manchester, United Kingdom and run a Pakistani designer boutique. It’s called Imani Studio. Since Covid-19, I cancelled my gym membership and started walking and running.”

Yes, since gyms had to close during the pandemic, we all had to find safer options to keep fit. Running and walking are great options because they’re outdoors.

“Yes. I’d walk and run in local parks and that’s where I joined the ‘Cheadle Hulme Parkrun.’ Every Saturday, I take part in a 5km run. I started to raise funds for local charities.”

We’re so grateful for volunteers like you who want to help others in this way.

“It’s very rewarding. Last year, in 2022, I took the challenge to take part in the Great Manchester 10km Run and raised over £800 for a charity. This year, I decided to take part again in the Great Manchester 10km Run and decided to raise funds for Imran Khan Cancer Appeal.”

How did it go?

“It was wonderful. I am honoured to be the only one of the 25,000 runners to proudly represent Imran Khan Cancer Appeal.”

Thank you, Sultan! Apart from the funds raised, you’ve also helped raise awareness of the work we do. You never know! Maybe, next year, more participants will run for good causes like Imran Khan Cancer Appeal.

“I wish to encourage all our communities in their surroundings to take part. Such events help to raise funds for Pakistan’s best charity – Imran Khan Cancer Appeal.”

We notice you set up a JustGiving Page to assist you with fundraising. How’s that going?

“So far, I’ve raised £574. I’m hoping donations will continue coming in.”
