Meet our Supporters: Tasneem Habib

Our long-time volunteer and super fundraiser, Tasneem Habib is doing it again! This time she’s taking on her toughest challenge ever.

Tasneem is climbing the second-highest mountain in the world and what’s considered the most dangerous – the K2 Base Camp. Now, British Muslim Magazine has done a feature on her and her achievements to date.

Taz, as she’s known to us all, is no stranger to tough challenges and is a real daredevil at heart. She’s completed the Mount Everest Base Camp trek, skydived over Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, reached Killer Mountain’s Base Camp and completed the world’s longest zip line at Ras al Khaimah in the UAE.

After taking a break from international challenges, Taz is back with a bang. “The pandemic gave me a break and allowed me to enjoy some of the UK’s beautiful countryside and peaks – Ben Nevis and Snowdon.” Now, Bradford-based Taz is in training for the IKCA K2 Base Camp Challenge taking place from 15-30 July this year. As if this wasn’t a big enough challenge, Taz, who is the Global Oncology Director for AstraZeneca, has set herself another: to raise £5,000 for IKCA!

“Recruiting locals and your loved ones to support the charity brings immense pleasure,” Taz says, “and I have managed to convince my husband Imran Ishaq to join me this time round. Training is fun and motivating when there are two of you and we are racing to see who will get to their fundraising target first!”

She added: “The 16-day trek will see temperatures drop from 30 degrees to -10, eight hours of trekking per day, with an average elevation gain of 320 metres on tough terrain with rough stones and crevasses. We will also be sleeping on ice at Baltoro Glacier, all of which will make this trek one of the gruelling challenges I have completed so far.”

Thank you Taz for your determination and for putting the needs of poor cancer patients first. With the support of volunteers like you, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospitals can treat 75% of our patients without charge.

If you would like to support Taz or her husband (!) on this challenge, you can donate on their JustGiving pages here.

Inspired by Taz? Wy not book your place on any of our upcoming challenges. Join us; together we’re changing the face of cancer in Pakistan.
