Meet Our Supporters: The Nafees Sisters

You’ve heard of sisters doing it for themselves, but here’s a pair of sisters who’ve been doing it for us and our patients since they were kids. Meet Aamna and Laaiba Nafees.

The Nafees sisters have continued their family tradition of supporting Imran Khan Cancer Appeal for over a decade. Last summer, they spent two weeks volunteering at our Lahore hospital. They were eager to share their experience with us when we chatted with them.

We heard that initially, you were a little wary of what you would find on your volunteering trip. Is that true?

Aamna: “Yes. As a British Pakistani, I’ll be very honest and say my expectations weren’t too high. However, I was surprised to see how amazing a hospital Shaukat Khanum is, and my time there was thoroughly enjoyable. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, keeping us busy while tending to their patients very well. The atmosphere created by everyone there is so pleasant to be in, that I almost didn’t want our volunteering to end! We even got to work in the office next to Dr Faisal – it was definitely a major jaw-drop moment when we saw him walk past.”

Laaiba: “I can tell you that this hospital is one of the best things to happen to Pakistan. We got to see exactly how Shaukat Khanam treats their patients in an organised way with lots of care. The hospital is doing its job very well as I’ve seen how they interact with all patients keeping up high standards of professionalism.”

Do you have a favourite memory of your time with us?

Laaiba: “There were many and it’s hard to choose just one. But I think it was when we got to go to the children’s ward. This was eye-opening as they are the youth and the future of our country. They’re all given specific care, according to their needs, to the highest standard. I liked being able to see the inside of how it works, and the efficiency of the hospital is really good.”

Thanks for the vote of confidence. It’s very important to us to perform our life-saving work to the best of our abilities, for the benefit of our patients.

Aamna: “We can confirm that. We’ve seen how the funds that IKCA so kindly raise for Shaukat Khanum Hospital help patients and their families and how this spectacular hospital is run purely off donations.”

Laaiba: “Shaukat Khanum is vital to Pakistan and Insha’Allah we can all carry on putting our donations towards helping our people.”

Thanks, Aamna and Laaiba for your commitment to helping our patients. Any last words?

Aamna: “Shaukat Khanum is doing a wonderful job at keeping people safe and fighting off cancer, and I certainly look forward to going again Insha’Allah.”

Laaiba: “Pakistan Zinda-baad!”

Thank you, Aamna, Laaiba and your entire family for your dedication to our cause. You’ve proven that no one is too young to make a positive difference.
