“The £16,000 he ended up raising has been the highest sum generated by any individual or group fundraising effort through Vodafone.”
IKCA volunteer, Jamal Tariq is a Vodafone employee based in Derby. In July 2012 Vodafone launched a ‘JustTextGiving £100 challenge’ internally and Jamal signed up, to fundraise for Imran Khan Cancer Appeal (IKCA). Jamal chose IKCA because he’d lost his uncle to cancer the previous year. His efforts raised over £16,000 through Vodafone. To date, Jamal has been our most charismatic and enthusiastic volunteer fundraiser.
Jamal had an initial target of £100 set by Vodafone, but he knew he could achieve a lot more. The £16,000 he ended up raising has been the highest sum generated by any individual or group fundraising effort through Vodafone.
Jamal’s efforts involved organising different events for all walks of life. They ranged from a Samosa & Cake Day at the Rolls-Royce and HP premises, to fundraising at the Comet Superstore, and eventually even a charity football tournament. He prepared a comprehensive presentation for IKCA, which was very effective when he presented it to Vodafone and Rolls-Royce Staff. While fundraising at Comet proved a great success in terms of donations received and awareness raised for cancer patients in Pakistan.
Jamal became one of Vodafone’s ‘World of Difference’ scheme winners. This enabled him to continue his IKCA volunteer work for 2 months, with Vodafone paying his salary. Volunteers like Jamal make a huge contribution to our fight against cancer.
