“We completed the challenge at 7 in the evening, with an hour to spare. ”
IKCA and Candlelighters volunteers joined forces for the three-peak challenge, in an effort to raise funds for cancer patients. The challenge involved completing a 6,000 ft ascent in just 12 hours, across three national peaks: Pen-y-Ghent, at 691 metres; Whernside, at 728 metres; and Ingleborough at 723 meters. Team Imran Khan raised over £3,500 for IKCA. Here’s what they had to say about the challenge.
On Saturday the 8th of September, we set out from Bramhope, in Leeds at 6.30 am. By the time we reached Horton in Ribblesdale, and started the climb, it was 8 in the morning and the West Yorkshire landscape was beautiful. Getting to the top of Pen-y-ghent wasn’t so difficult, but things got challenging during the second climb. By the time we reached Inglebrough, we were exhausted and felt we could take no more. Also our large group had been divided into two or three smaller groups, as everyone liked to trek according to their own pace.
We completed the challenge at 7 in the evening, with an hour to spare. It was exhausting and exhilarating, and well worth the effort. Particularly with so many donors inspired to support our cause.
